New Delhi, May 1 – Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing, Shri Ravneet Singh Bittu, strongly criticized Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for dramatizing the river water issue for political gain. He assured the people of Punjab that not a single drop of the state’s share of water will be released by the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB).

In a statement issued today, Mr. Bittu described Mr. Mann’s outcry over the water issue as theatrical and politically motivated, calling it a distraction at a time when the nation stands united on national security matters. “While the entire country is focused on serious concerns such as national security, Mr. Mann is trying to divert attention by staging unnecessary drama over water,” Bittu remarked.

The Minister confirmed that he had spoken directly with the Chairman of the BBMB, who assured him that no additional water from Punjab’s quota was being released. Drawing from his own experience as a former MP from Anandpur Sahib in 2002, Mr. Bittu noted that he had actively participated in BBMB meetings and is well-acquainted with its operations. He emphasized that the water-sharing dispute between Punjab and Haryana is already pending before the Supreme Court, and if Haryana requires more water, it should approach the court accordingly. “As a Union Minister, I categorically state that Punjab’s rightful share of water will not be released under any circumstances,” he asserted.

Mr. Bittu also accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of trying to derail the ongoing dialogue between farmers and the Union Government. He said the Punjab government’s interference was a calculated move to mislead farmers, particularly since many farmer organizations have expressed their opposition to the AAP-led state government. He pointed out that farmer leaders have already announced they will boycott the May 4 meeting if Punjab ministers are invited.

In addition, the Union Minister strongly condemned the recent attack on the BJP office in Ludhiana by AAP workers. He demanded that an FIR be registered against those responsible, especially the leaders who incited violence and led the mob.
